Training

The Training Unit provides extensive training for all sworn and civilian personnel.  In 2023, the unit oversaw and/or coordinated almost 62,000 hours of training.

The unit works closely with the Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) board to ensure our deputies are completing and maintaining state approved training in all levels and certifications.

Training topics include domestic and international terrorism, report writing, emotional survival, firearms, arrest control tactics, supervisor leadership, employee wellness, and disaster recovery.

The training unit also hosts a Reserve Academy every 18 months.  The academy program is approximately 270 hours (13 weeks) and includes training very similar to the full POST academy.  The success of the academy attracts participants from other law enforcement agencies and Larimer County residents.
