Larimer County Natural Resources receives pollution reduction grant to support climate goals

LOVELAND – The Larimer County Department of Natural Resources (LCDNR) received a grant of $23,749 from the Colorado Regional Air Quality Council to convert a portion of its gas-powered lawn equipment to zero-emission commercial equipment through the Mow Down Pollution program. Combined with LCDNR's cash match of $7,000, nineteen pieces of electric equipment were purchased with the grant and are now in use for the 2024 season. This includes mowers, chainsaws, pruners, and weed whips.
 

The grant will help LCDNR achieve its goal to decrease its emissions and align with the county’s climate goals by switching entirely from gas-powered to electric lawn equipment by 2025. These new tools represent 40% of the LCDNR’s total lawn equipment inventory.

The old equipment has been decommissioned, leading to an 86,000-pound reduction in Greenhouse Gas Emissions. This is the equivalent of taking 10.5 average passenger gasoline vehicles off the road every year!
