Access to business and asset information is limited to the owner of the assets or an authorized agent of the owner. Agents must submit a letter of authorization.

The filing deadline is April 15. Late online filings will be accepted for a limited time; however, a late fee will be added to your tax bill.

On June 2, 2024 at 5:00 pm, online filing access for Tax Year 2024 will no longer be available.

You can easily file your personal property declaration schedule online. Enter your Schedule Number and click on File Declaration. Then enter your Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) and click on Sign In.

Your schedule number is printed on your declaration schedule. We must have your FEIN on file as of January 1 to use this filing method. Due to the proprietary nature of the information, FEIN numbers will not be divulged over the phone.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Declaration Schedules and Attachments Are Confidential and Private Documents by Law.
  • Agents must have a Letter of Authorization from the business owner on file with the Assessor. The Letter of Authorization can be attached in the Supporting Documents Section before submitting your declaration to the Assessor or faxed to 970-498-7070.
  • Do not file an online declaration schedule and a paper declaration schedule in the same year or your assessment could be too high.
  • The filing deadline is April 17.

Filing Instructions:

Verify your Corporation name, Business name (DBA), physical location and mailing addresses. To make updates or corrections, please complete the Personal Property Change Form and attach it to your filing in the Supporting Documents Section before submitting your declaration to the Assessor.

If you have a new FEIN, please enter it on the Personal Property Change Form where indicated and attach it to your filing in the Supporting Documents Section before submitting your declaration to the Assessor.

No Change Option

Review your current list of assets. Check this box if there are no changes from last year's declaration schedule filing. 
Do not check this box if this is a new business or organization. Scroll down to the additions section to add an asset list for your business.

Business has Ceased Operations

Check the box to indicate your business ceased operations as of January 1 of the current year.  Please enter the date the personal property was sold or stored, who you sold it to, and the total selling price of the assets on the Personal Property Change form.  Attach the form to your filing in the Supporting Documents Section before submitting to the Assessor. You can find a link to the form in the Filing Summary. 

Current Asset List

Review the current asset list on file with Larimer County.
For the most accurate assessment it is recommended that you attach a complete itemized listing with each Business Personal Property Declaration filing.

To delete personal property shown that you no longer own, click on the X beside the item to delete it from your record. To add additional personal property, click the + Add Asset button below for each item and enter the appropriate information.  

You must submit a complete property listing if you have not provided one for this location.

Additions

List all taxable personal property acquired by you prior to January 1. Click the + Add Asset button for each item and enter a detailed description, year acquired, quantity and original cost to you for each asset.  The original cost to you is defined as the amount paid for the personal property when it was new to you inclusive of sales/use tax, freight, and installation charges. The quantity entered will be multiplied by the cost each. 

Deletions

List all taxable personal property sold, traded, or scrapped prior to January 1 of the current year.  To delete personal property shown that you no longer own, click on the X beside the item in the asset listing to delete an item that has been sold or disposed. You will see a summary of your deletions and can make corrections if necessary. Do not delete items that are fully depreciated or in storage if you still own them.  

Lessors and Leases

All personal property leased, loaned, or rented to you must be listed in this section. (Property owned by others) If you have leased, loaned, or rented personal property click the + Add Lessor button for each Lessor/Owner and enter the Lessor/Owner’s name and address.  Press enter and you will get a drop-down box to add each lease you currently have for the Lessor/Owner you just entered. Click the + Add Lease for each lease you have with that Lessor and enter a detailed property description, lease number, lease date, term, cost of the lease to you, and annual payment.

Renewable Energy Personal Property

Is there any RENEWABLE ENERGY PERSONAL PROPERTY (e.g. solar panels, wind turbines, hydroelectric property) at this location?  If the RENEWAL PROPERTY IS OWNED BY YOU, RENEWABLE PROPERTY FORM DS 058 is required to be filed with the assessor. Attach the completed form to your filing in the Supporting Documents Section before submitting your on-line declaration filing to the Assessor.

Statement of Personal Property

Review your filing to confirm your updates. 

Review or update your additions and deletions by clicking the Long Form button. To review or update the leasing information, click the Lessors button. To review or update contact information, click the Contact button. To update your business name and mailing address download and complete the change request form and attach the completed form in the supporting documents before submitting. 

Is there any Renewable Energy Personal Property? Complete and attach RENEWABLE PROPERTY FORM DS 058 form and attach the completed form in the supporting documents before submitting.

Attach the following documents if applicable in the supporting documents section. 

  • Federal Depreciation Schedule
  • Fully Depreciated Assets/Expensed Assets
  • Mobile Equipment (not leased, loaned, or rented) 
  • General Ledger 
  • Attach additional information that may be helpful to the Assessor regarding this filing.

Tax Agents must have written authorization from the business owner on file with the Assessor. The letter of authorization can be attached in the supporting documents section or faxed to 970-498-7070.   

After your review you may attach exhibits in Supporting Documents and/or add comments in the Comments section below then click on Submit form to the Assessor to complete your declaration filing.

FAQs

  1. Who should file online?

    All businesses may take advantage of the online filing methods available in Larimer County.

    • Existing businesses with an established personal property account with the Larimer County Assessor's Office, and have submitted their Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) prior to January 1.
    • New businesses or businesses that have never filed in Larimer County may use one of our additional filing methods. You may email a completed, signed declaration schedule to personalproperty@larimer.org. You may attach a complete asset list (preferably Microsoft Excel) to your declaration schedule. Include in the listing a separate column for quantity (if multiple of the same asset), description of each asset, year the asset was acquired and original cost (including shipping, installation, and tax).
    • Leasing Companies email a completed, signed declaration schedule to personalproperty@larimer.org. You can attach a complete asset list (preferably Microsoft Excel) to your declaration schedule. Please include the name and location address of the Lessee, item description, year acquired, original cost (including shipping, installation, and tax), and month/year placed in service.

    *Note: Tax Agents must have written authorization from the owner of the assets on file with the Assessor. This letter of authorization can be attached to the filing or faxed to 970-498-7070.

  2. Why should I file online?

    There are several reasons to use this online tool:

    • Less paperwork for your office.
    • File and archive your forms electronically. Less paper to manage!
    • It is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
    • The Assessor's Office can process your declaration schedule more efficiently.
    • Saves money on postage.
  3. What if my list of assets has not changed from the previous year's declaration schedule?
    1. Enter your Schedule Number and click on File Online Declaration.
    2. Then enter your FEIN and click on Sign In.
    3. Verify your business and trade name (DBA), physical and mailing addresses, and make any changes necessary.
    4. Review your current list of assets and check the box that indicates "No Changes" from last year's declaration schedule.
    5. Sign your online declaration by clicking on Submit to Assessor.
  4. What if I can't log in?

    If your FEIN is not recognized or it may not be on file with our office, you will not be able to file a declaration online.

    Take advantage of our additional filing methods and download a blank Personal Property Declaration Schedule  that can be:

  5. I report my assets in summary or bulk format. Can I change the quantity or value on a Detail ID line?

    No, the Personal Property online tool does not support that operation. However, you may delete the entire asset line item and then re-add the correct information in the additions section. You can also enter an explanation in the Comments section or attach additional documentation before submitting your filing to the Assessor.

  6. I prefer not to file online. Do I have any other options?
