The International Code Council (ICC) has published almost all the 2024 building codes (except
the energy code). Larimer County will soon join the City of Fort Collins and other local
municipalities in reviewing the new codes. You can access a read-only version of the 2024
codes at ICC’s website
. We hope the energy code, as well as the 2024 Significant Changes
books, will be published soon. Until then, please see this list of key changes.

Due to delayed publication of the 2024 energy code, which slowed the work of a related Fort Collins energy code development committee, the formal code review process is being postponed about six months. The next meeting of our joint code review committee, which consists of building and fire code officials, homebuilders, engineers, architects, and other interested parties, is now expected in January, 2025. More information and a zoom link will be published when they are available.

This code cycle is different because the state has adopted a model electric-ready/ solar PV-
ready/Electric Vehicle-ready code
that all counties must adopt as a minimum the next time they
adopt any new building codes. The state is also working on a model wildfire hazard mitigation
code
due out by July 1, 2025, as well as a model energy code due out next Summer. Rather
than review and adopt new codes, then amend them or adopt new ones a few months later, we
plan to include all the new codes including the state codes. That means our 2024 codes will
probably take effect on January 1, 2026. Other local municipalities are planning for the same
effective date for new codes.

If you have any questions or comments about these new codes, please email me at
efried@larimer.org and be as specific as possible: which code are you referencing, which
section, and what are your concerns or suggestions.

Thank you for your interest in helping us adopt the best codes to protect public safety in the built
environment in Larimer County.
