Military
Active duty military personnel temporarily living in the State of Colorado, have two options for vehicle registration.
- If maintaining an out of state driver's license, the out of state license plates may be retained on your vehicle. You will however be required to comply with the State of Colorado emissions and insurance requirements.
- If living in the State of Colorado for an extended period of time and planning on obtaining Colorado license plates and registration, certain criteria must be met. The Larimer County Vehicle Licensing Department will require:
- Emissions test
- Verification of Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
- Proof of insurance
- Completion of form DR2667 – Affidavit of Non-residence and Military Service Exemption from Specific Ownership Tax
- You are active duty military assigned to the State of Colorado
- The vehicle must be physically located in the State of Colorado
- You claim out of state residency
- A new DR2667 form must be submitted each year with renewal, or registration of new vehicle
- The individual who is on active duty must show as owner or co-owner of the vehicle
Disabled veterans may qualify for one free set of Disabled Veteran license plates upon submitting proof of qualifications:
- A completed DR 2002 form Military License Plate Application
- DD214
- Eligibility letter from Veteran Affairs stating the Veteran has a 50% or greater percentage of disability; and the disability is service connected; and the disability is permanent
The free set of license plates are ordered and renewed at your county vehicle licensing office. The qualifying individual must be an owner, lessee, or trust beneficiary of the vehicle.
Qualified persons may request an additional set of Disabled Veteran license plates subject to applicable registration fees.
This license plate alone does not qualify for Persons With Disability parking privileges. Please see the section below for information on obtaining Persons with Disability parking privileges with Disabled Veteran license plates.
To qualify for a Disabled Veteran Persons with Disabilities License Plates, the applicant must provide:
- A completed DR 2002 form Military License Plate Application
- DD214
- Eligibility letter from Veteran Affairs stating the Veteran has a 50% or greater percentage of disability, and the disability is service connected; and the disability is permanent
- Form DR 2219 Persons with Disabilities Parking Privileges Application
