This future open space is currently in the planning and development phase.
Please read below for updates about this property and opportunities for the public to engage in the planning process.
West of Carter Lake
Acquired by Larimer County in 2004 to protect natural resources and provide future nature-based public access, Chimney Hollow Open Space is located five miles southwest of Loveland. Chimney Hollow Open Space is 1,847 total acres and is directly adjacent to Chimney Hollow Reservoir, which is 760 surface acres (by comparison, nearby Carter Lake is 1,100 surface acres).
As partners, Larimer County and Northern Water have been working together for positive public benefit for over 60 years. This long-standing partnership work continues with the development of Chimney Hollow Open Space (CHOS), which will border adjacent and west of the newly constructed Chimney Hollow Reservoir.
Larimer County has a dedicated Help Preserve Open Space (HPOS) sales tax to conserve lands and manages over 57,000 acres of lands conserved with those funds since 1996. In 2004, with HPOS funding, Larimer County acquired Chimney Hollow Open Space to protect natural resources and provide future recreation. At the same time, Northern Water acquired the land for the future reservoir.
