Project Update (February 2024): In 2015, Larimer County, Timnath and Fort Collins built new segments of the Poudre River Trail which included Timnath and Larimer County partnering to build a 0.5-mile segment of trail east of Wal-Mart near I-25 and Harmony Road and Fort Collins building a new segment of the Poudre River Trail through Arapaho Bend Natural Area.

Project partners were successful in 2019 in obtaining a GOCO grant to complete additional trail connections. Most remaining portions of the trail are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024, including a new underpass at I-25.  Project 5025 update from Larimer County Engineering.

Completing the Poudre River Trail is one of Larimer County Natural Resources' top priorities. Once complete, the Poudre River Trail will be over 40 miles in length, from Bellvue, north of Fort Collins, to Island Grove Park in Greeley.

Once complete, an approximately 18-mile section located in and managed by Fort Collins will connect to a 22-mile section located in unincorporated Larimer County, Timnath, Windsor, Weld County and Greeley. The Poudre River Trail at River Bluffs Open Space connects to 21 beautiful miles of trail running southeast through wildlife areas and parks. Both Fort Collins and the Poudre River Trail Corridor, Inc., a non-profit organization, currently manage sections of the trail.

Larimer County and partners are currently working with willing landowners to acquire trail easements and construct the final segments of trail. For more information about the Poudre River Trail, email Zac Wiebe or phone (970) 619-4534.
