Sheriff

The main function performed by the Civil Process Unit is to serve civil papers. LCSO Civil Process personnel will never demand money from defendants via telephone. Judgments are ordered by Larimer County Courts and paid to the courts, not the Larimer County Sheriff's Office. If LCSO is ordered by the courts to seize money/property, deputies will do so in person.

The mission of the Civil Process Unit is to provide quality customer service in the processing and execution of civil process.  The duties of the unit vary and include, but are not limited to:

  •  Service of civil process
  •  Sale of real and personal property under court order
  •  Execution of court ordered evictions
  •  Court ordered stand-by to keep the peace

Information regarding whom is to be served and where they may be served will be provided by the person requesting service. Any additional information provided such as date of birth, place of employment, best time to serve, vehicle and physical description, or picture is helpful.  This information should be provided on a Larimer County Sheriff's Office Information Sheet.

The service of civil process is based upon the information provided. Complete and accurate information (addresses, descriptions, place of employment, work hours, etc.) will assist us in ensuring successful service. A Return of Service documenting the successful service of the paper will be mailed to you or can be picked up at the Sheriff’s Office in person. In order to ensure timely services, please contact our Civil Process Unit via e-mail at sheriff-civilprocess@larimer.gov

Staff members of the Sheriff's Office are prohibited from giving legal advice.

Colorado state law requires that the Sheriff of each Colorado County serve the civil process of the Courts within their jurisdiction. They are also required to accept and serve civil process from all other Colorado counties, each of the states of the union, and the federal government. Civil process includes all types of papers resulting from civil litigation, including summons and complaints, subpoenas, court orders, writs of execution, writs of garnishment, and writs of restitution (commonly known as eviction orders).

Effective March 1, 2024 pursuant to Colorado Revised Statute 30-1-104 and approved by the Larimer County Board of
Commissioners, fees for service of process by the Larimer County Sheriff's Office will be as follows:

Civil fee per mile: $ 0.670
