The Estes Park Transfer Station and residential convenience centers are located in outlying areas of the county and are designed to make it easier for local residents to rid themselves of household wastes. The wastes collected at the transfer station and residential convenience centers are periodically transported to the Larimer County Landfill. All residential convenience centers accept credit cards. Please note: BAGGED, HOUSEHOLD TRASH ONLY is accepted. Other items will no longer be accepted, such as wood, branches, couches, mattresses and more; they must be taken to the landfill for disposal. Please see each individual center below for site specific trash and recycling options.

The Estes Park Transfer Station is located at 455 Elm Road in Estes Park. The transfer station is at the site of the old Estes Park Landfill, which was closed by Larimer County in 1984. The Town of Estes Park owns the site and Waste Management, Inc. operates it under contract with Larimer County.

  • January, February, March / November & December: 8am - 4pm, 3 days a week, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday
  • October & April:  8am - 4pm, 5 days a week, Tuesday through Saturday
  • May - September:  8am - 4pm, 6 days a week, Monday through Saturday

  • Household hazardous wastes like pesticides, paint thinners and cleaners must be taken to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility at the Larimer County Landfill.
  • This transfer station accepts all forms of payment.
  • Per Colorado Revised Statutes 42-4-1407, all waste - regardless of size, type or weight, and even if placed in plastic bags - must be completely enclosed with a cover and secured to your vehicle. This policy is strictly enforced. Uncovered loads are charged double fees.
  • Please note that wood, tree limbs, tree stumps and root balls will only be accepted if they are 2' in diameter or smaller. Tree limbs will only be accepted if they are 6' in length or less. 6’ maximum length on all disposal items.

The Residential Recycling Center for Estes Park is located at the site of the old landfill, 640 Elm Road, Estes Park, CO. Residents should not take their recyclables to the Estes Park Transfer Station.

  • The facility is closed for lunch from 12pm - 12:30pm

Single stream (mixed) recycling will be accepted in the three roll-off containers on-site.

Accepted recyclables: Metal cans, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles/jars/jugs/tubs only, and newspaper/office paper/magazines/paperboard. Cardboard must be cut into flat pieces that are smaller than the 18" x 18" opening. 

Common contaminants not accepted: Plastic clamshell containers (from grocery produce, bakery & deli sections and take-out), plastic bags and film, recyclables with food and liquid debris, and Styrofoam. Shredded paper is not accepted; drop it at the transfer station for a fee.

The Red Feather Lakes Residential Convenience Center is located on Red Feather Lakes Road. Enter through the U.S. Forest Service entrance between Parvin and West Lakes. A roll-off recycling container is located at this site. Accepted recyclables are as follows: metal cans, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles/jars/tubs only, and newspaper/office paper/magazines/paperboard.

The Wellington Residential Convenience Center is located on County Road 70 (also known as Owl Canyon Road), between County Roads 7 and 9. From Wellington, go north on County Road 9, turn east on County Road 70, and the residential convenience center is about 1/2 mile down the road. Owned and operated by Larimer County, the residential convenience center is located on the site of the Wellington Landfill, which was closed in 1986.

9 am - 4 pm, Saturdays only year-round.
