Residents can recycle their live holiday trees for a $5 fee at the Larimer County Landfill from December 20 – January 20. All decorations, tree stands, and plastic bags must be removed from the tree. The limit is one tree per resident. Christmas trees with items that have not been removed will be charged and landfilled.
The Green Waste Program is a way that commercial customers and residents can divert waste from the landfill. The benefits of diverting decomposing green waste include extending the life of the landfill, reducing leachate and greenhouse gas emissions and producing valuable products that enrich soil and enhance vegetation growth.
See Landfill Fees for costs. Residential Green Waste and trash may come in on the same load through the gate, but must be unloaded separately. Green waste must go through the main gate to be charged and tracked. It must be unloaded in the green waste area near the trash platform by specific waste type, and trash must be unloaded in the disposal area. Look for signs as you drive toward the disposal area.
