Hundreds of local, state, and federal public safety personnel continue fighting the Alexander Mountain Fire, which began on July 29, 2024 in Larimer County.

The US Forest Service assumed command of the fire from LCSO on July 30. As of 8:30 p.m., the fire is estimated at 5,080 acres with 0% containment. The USFS reported fire growth primarily along the north, west, and east perimeters. A Complex Incident Management Team will assume command of the fire on August 1. Hotshot Crews and additional resources will support firefighting efforts.

Multiple mandatory and voluntary evacuations have been ordered for the surrounding areas. For up-to-date evacuation information, impacted areas, and road closures, visit https://www.nocoalert.org. People can also sign up for evacuation updates by texting the keyword LCEVAC to 888777.

People who need small animal evacuation resources should contact NOCO Humane at 970-226-3647 (option 0).

Large animal evacuation, which was originally housed at The Larimer County Fairgrounds, has been moved to Island Grove Regional Park (501 N 14th Ave, Greeley, CO). This move will allow animal evacuation efforts to continue during the Larimer County Fair and PRCA Rodeo August 2-6. Veterinary professionals are attending the large animal evacuation site to support the health and well-being of displaced animals.

“Partnerships are so important in situations like this, and we’re fortunate to have some of the best here in Northern Colorado,” said Larimer County Sheriff John Feyen. “This was evident from the immediate support of Estes Park Police Chief Stewart and the Loveland Police Department, to the extensive collaboration with our US Forest Service command team, local fire partners, state agencies, and more. As we continue coordinating land and air resources, our community can trust that hundreds of public safety professionals are working hard to protect their families.”

LCSO will continue to operate the Joint Information Center (JIC), which can be reached at (970) 980-2500. Due to the large outpouring of community support, no additional volunteer resources or supplies are needed at this time.

The JIC closed at 8 p.m. and will reopen on July 31 at 8:00 am. People can also access a list of resources, maps, and other information, visit the Alexander Mountain Fire page at https://www.larimer.gov/alexander-mountain-fire. Personnel are continuing firefighting efforts overnight.
