Alexander Mountain Fire Update – August 7, 2024

As of the evening of August 7, the Alexander Mountain Fire is estimated at 9,668 acres and 91% containment.

This morning, Highway 34 opened in both directions between Estes Park and Loveland. Evacuation orders have been downgraded to voluntary for the Storm Mountain and Cedar Park areas. At this time, residents are required to show credentials to enter the area. Residents returning home can find dumpsters available for food waste along Highway 34 and Cedar Park Road. Other resources, including information about debris removal, land rehabilitation, and hazardous material disposal, will be available at the Disaster Assistance Center (DAC) held at The Ranch Event Complex (5280 Arena Circle, South Hall, Loveland, CO, 80538). The DAC is free to attend and will be open Friday, August 9 through Sunday, August 11 from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Additional recovery resources can be found here: https://www.larimer.gov/alexander-mountain-fire.  

After a wildfire, there is naturally an increased risk of flash flooding. If you live near the Alexander Mountain Fire burn scar, please be aware of your surroundings, especially during inclement weather. In the event of a flood warning, stay tuned to local weather alerts, move to higher ground, and always avoid driving through flood waters. The cause of the Alexander Mountain Fire is currently under investigation and has not been determined. Anyone with information about the cause and origin of the fire is asked to call the US Forest Service Law Enforcement Tip Line at (303) 275-5266.
