Two people were arrested after eluding law enforcement and crashing a stolen vehicle early Thursday morning.

On November 14, 2024 around 4:20 a.m., a Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputy located a stolen vehicle at a gas station in Berthoud. The silver 2015 Subaru Forrester had been stolen in Weld County during an armed carjacking. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle at Wagon Bend Road and Buckskin Road. The driver refused to stop, eluded deputies, and drove north on Berthoud Parkway at speeds up to 100 mph.

As the vehicle slowed near Highway 402, deputies performed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) to stop it. The Forrester hit a curb, then struck a nearby tree and caught fire. Deputies quickly got the driver and passenger out. As this was happening, deputies also recovered a rifle from the driver’s possession. Thompson Valley EMS transported the suspects to an area hospital for medical care. They were released a short time later and booked into the Larimer County Jail.

The driver was identified as Michael Howell-McGlynn (DOB 03/16/05) of Firestone. He was arrested for Vehicular Eluding - Results in Bodily Injury to Another (F4), Obstructing a Peace Office (M2), and Reckless Driving (Traffic Violation).

Howell-McGlynn was issued a $50,000 cash/surety bond by the Larimer County Court.

The passenger, Kristine Elisabeth Romero (DOB 10/29/05) of Longmont, was arrested for Conspiracy to Commit a Class 4 Felony (F5), as well as an existing Boulder County felony warrant for 2nd Degree Assault on a Peace Officer.

Romero was issued a $125 cash bond by the Larimer County Court, in addition to the $5,000 cash/property/surety bond associated with her Boulder County warrant.

“This driver’s reckless behavior shows a disturbing disregard for the safety of others,” said Larimer County Sheriff John Feyen. “Our deputies will continue to protect this community and apprehend dangerous criminals who threaten lives and property in Northern Colorado.”

Traffic on Highway 402 was temporarily diverted while Loveland Fire Rescue Authority extinguished the vehicle fire and investigators processed the scene. Loveland Police Department responded to assist with the crash investigation.

Booking photos are attached. All charges are merely an accusation, and defendants are presumed innocent until, and unless, proven guilty.
