The Board of Larimer County Commissioners voted on January 28 to proclaim February 2025 as Black History Month in Larimer County to honor the rich history, culture, and contributions of Black people to our nation, state, and county. “This is an opportunity to acknowledge some of the pain and suffering that has taken place in our nation. Black History Month acknowledges that suffering and a commitment to do better,” said Larimer County Commissioner Kristin Stephens.

It’s an annual opportunity to remember the work of those who fought for progress, helping Black Americans to continue to thrive at all levels of our community. “I want everyone to remember the progress we’ve made where everyone feels valued,” echoed Larimer County Commissioner Jody Shadduck McNally. The 2025 Black History Month theme is African Americans and Labor. To learn more about Black History Month, visit: https://asalh.org/

Larimer County Commissioner John Kefalas said, " We’re a community of belonging where everyone is welcome to have a seat at the table, and this proclamation is a good reminder of why we need to reflect on our history."
