Our mission is to deliver operational excellence through readiness, interagency coordination, and decisive action. We are committed to protecting lives, property, and natural resources through proactive mitigation, effective incident response, and the continuous advancement of wildfire and all-hazard operations.
Our History
The Larimer County Sheriff's Office Emergency Services wildland fire program began in 1969 with the formation of the "Yellowjackets" crew. What started as a small, dedicated team has grown over five decades into the Phantom Canyon Fire Crew—a highly trained force recognized throughout Colorado and beyond for excellence in wildland fire suppression and all-hazard emergency response.
Our Impact
Throughout our history, we have trained over 5,000 firefighters who have gone on to serve in agencies across the nation. Our alumni include Smokejumpers, Hotshot crew members, Fire Management Officers, and leaders at every level of the wildland fire community. Many have returned to mentor the next generation, creating a cycle of excellence that defines our program.
