Clarifications on Child Care Exclusions

 

  • Any child, student or staff diagnosed with COVID-19 or who is a close contact of a COVID-19 case should not go to school/child care and should isolate (10 days from onset-COVID positive) or quarantine (14 days for exposure to a positive COVID case). 
  • Individuals should not be kept home for usual symptoms they experience due to a chronic condition unless they are worse than usual. (an alternative diagnosis).
  • Individuals with COVID symptoms not due to chronic conditions:
    • If Major or Minor symptoms resolve in 24 hours they can return to school or daycare (Need to stay out an additional 24 hours if they had vomiting or diarrhea).
    • If an individual has minor symptoms only and they resolve within 48 hours they can return to school or daycare after an additional 24 hours being symptom free, but must wear a face covering.  
    • If they are ill for more than 48 hours,or if they had major symptoms that lasted >24 hours and can't wear a face covering:
      • they should stay excluded for 10 days from the date of onset or 
      • until an alternative diagnosis is obtained from a medical provider or 
      • they get a negative COVID test result.
