Announcing the 8th Judicial District Bias-Motivated and Hate Crime Hotline

The 8th Judicial District Attorney’s Office is proud to announce the launch of a Bias-Motivated and Hate Crime Hotline to serve as an additional reporting tool for our community. In 2025, the District Attorney’s Office received questions from concerned community members about how best to report bias-motivated crimes, how to ensure their safety while reporting, and how our office could support those investigations and victims.

Joe Sanchez Sentenced to 26 Years

Yesterday, Joe Sanchez was sentenced to 26 years in the Department of Corrections after he pled guilty to Attempted Murder in the 1st Degree- After Deliberation, a class two felony, and Attempted Assault in the 1st Degree, Serious Bodily Injury with a Deadly Weapon, a class four felony.

Felipe Salazar-Varela Sentenced to 27 Years

On Monday, Felipe Salazar-Varela was sentenced to 27 years in the Department of Corrections after he was found guilty of the following charges: Burglary in the 1st Degree - Assault/Menace (F3) (2) Burglary in the 2nd Degree- Of Dwelling (F3) Attempted Burglary in the 2nd Degree (F5) (6) Violation of a Protection Order (M1) Assault in the 3rd Degree (M1) Harassment- Strike/Shove/Kick (M1) Child Abuse-Knowing Reckless (M2) (2) Obstructing a Peace Officer (M2)
