Hazard Mitigation” is defined as sustained action taken to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to life and property from hazards. The Larimer County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan will analyze the County’s vulnerabilities to all hazards including natural and human caused hazards and identifies proactive mitigation actions the county, town, cities, and stakeholders can take to minimize impacts to people, property, and critical facilities.

Threats and hazards present long-term risks to people and their property. Mitigation is risk management action taken to avoid, reduce, or transfer those risks. By reducing the impact of disasters, mitigation supports protection and prevention activities, eases response, and speeds recovery to create better prepared and more resilient communities.

Currently, Larimer County is in the process of updating the 2021 Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan per the five-year update cycle required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000.
