This quarter, we are highlighting North Front Range Metropolitan Planning Organization (NFRNMO) and their role in Climate Smart Future Ready (CSFR). Find out more through the below Q&A!

What are the NFRMPO and the NoCo Bike & Ped organizations and what is your role?

My name is Jerome Rouser, and I am a Transportation Planner at the North Front Range Metropolitan Planning Organization (NFRMPO). The NFRMPO is the regional transportation planning agency for Northern Colorado. I also staff the Northern Colorado Bicycle and Pedestrian Collaborative (more commonly known as NoCo Bike & Ped) which is a group that meets monthly to discuss and advance Active Transportation in our region. NoCo Bike & Ped is working on the Active Transportation elements of CSFR.

Why are these organizations involved with CSFR?

As the regional transportation planning agency, The NFRMPO is always looking for opportunities to collaborate with our local agencies to further advance multimodal transportation in our region. NoCo Bike & Ped is involved due the group’s knowledge and passion for active transportation. The group is comprised of folks from all different walks of life and professions, and it was a great group to provide insight into this plan.

What is your entity already successfully working on/achieving and what will be enhanced and added through the CSFR actions?

The NFRMPO has established performance measures pertaining to Active Transportation, and the NFRMPO already collects active transportation data, including maintaining a regional active transportation network inventory. We are in the process of updating the Regional Active Transportation Plan which will include recommendations on how to improve the regional active transportation network.

NoCo Bike & Ped has been an important partner in developing the Active Transportation Plan, and for all the bike/ped work the NFRMPO does. I find that most of the active transportation elements of CSFR are things that the NFRMPO and NoCo Bike & Ped has been doing with our planning efforts.

What action are you and your committee going to tackle first?

NoCo Bike & Ped is starting with establishing metrics to evaluate Larimer County’s and the region’s active transportation network. We are also having discussions on what data would be helpful for this planning effort, including bicycle and pedestrian trail use data.

What partners are you planning to work with this year?
We plan on continuing to work with NoCo Bike & Ped. This group already has a variety of stakeholders from across the region that each provide a unique perspective.

What are your hopes for CSFR work?
In the end, I hope the work we’ve done on this plan will result in an improved active transportation system for both Larimer County and the region. I believe this is important work, and I look forward to continuing to work with NoCo Bike & Ped, Larimer County, and any other partnerships that arise along the way.
