Applications are now open for the Emergency Services Exploration Series (ESES), a new community program offered by the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.

ESES is an educational series designed for Larimer County residents, students, and business owners. Participants will learn about LCSO's involvement in wildland fire, disaster response, search and rescue, and emergency medical operations. During this highly interactive program, attendees will have a chance to participate in scenarios, explore vehicles and equipment, connect with experts in the field, and more.

The 2025 program is scheduled over four Saturdays: September 13, September 27, October 4, and October 11. These half-day morning sessions will be held at the LCSO Emergency Services building in North Fort Collins. Participants are asked to attend all four classes, barring emergencies.

Each week will cover different topics, tools, and demonstrations, all presented by LCSO staff and local rescue volunteers. This is not a certification program, but it will give participants firsthand perspective into the work of these teams. Topics include:

  • Wildland firefighting
  • Fire mitigation
  • Search and rescue
  • Dive rescue
  • Backcountry ski rescue
  • Unmanned aerial systems (drones)
  • Field medical care

Space is limited; applicants will be notified in late August about whether they have been accepted into the Fall 2025 program. The fee for ESES is $20, which will go to our local volunteer search and rescue organizations. Once accepted, applicants may pay by cash or check (payable to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office).
