The Larimer County Department of Health and Environment is pleased to announce the appointment of Bob McDonald as its new Environmental Health Services Director. McDonald brings a wealth of experience and a distinguished career in public health leadership to Larimer County.

A veteran in the field of public health, McDonald has over 25 years of experience in leadership roles, including serving as the Executive Director of the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment.

"We are thrilled to welcome Bob McDonald to the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment," said Tom Gonzales, Public Health Director. "Bob brings a wealth of experience and proven track record of public health leadership. His expertise will be invaluable as we continue to work to address the pressing public health challenges facing Larimer County.”

Among McDonald’s many achievements, he has been instrumental in shaping public health priorities and policies, leading initiatives to enhance efficiency, and restructuring programs to align with community goals. His work has involved identifying new revenue streams, strategic planning, public health accreditation, and spearheading revisions to public health codes. McDonald also has a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Resource Management from Colorado State University and has completed master’s level coursework in Public Administration.

As a resident of Larimer County myself, I’m deeply committed to protecting the health of our community and our environment. I look forward to collaborating with local partners and continuing the county’s strong tradition of public health leadership,” says McDonald.

In this role, McDonald will lead the Environmental Health Services team, which plays a vital role in protecting the community through efforts such as inspecting facilities to ensure air quality compliance, monitoring outside air quality, conducting food safety and public pool inspections, testing water quality, permitting and inspecting on-site wastewater treatment systems, investigating solid waste complaints, and responding to diseases that spread from animals to humans.

The Larimer County Department of Health and Environment is confident that McDonald’s leadership and expertise will be invaluable in advancing the agency’s mission to provide everyone in Larimer County with the opportunity for a healthy life.
