Larimer County Natural Resources has conserved the 675-acre Legend Trail Ranch in northern Larimer County.  The protection of the ranch was made possible by the generous donation of a conservation easement on the property by landowner Cheryl Rennels.

The property is located in the Laramie Foothills region of Larimer County, an area identified as a priority for land conservation in the Larimer County Open Lands Master Plan, and where significant conservation work has been completed to date.  Legend Trail Ranch boasts rolling grasslands, rock outcroppings, and working agricultural lands along U.S. Hwy 287 north of Livermore.  It provides a buffer on two sides to other privately owned conservation easements creating a connected landscape of protected lands.

The ranch has historically been utilized for grazing cattle and growing hay.  The conservation easement will allow these agricultural uses to continue into the future, while also protecting important wildlife habitat and scenic views.

Cheryl Rennels noted:

"My goal has always been to preserve the agricultural way of life I grew up in and currently enjoy.  Partnering with Larimer County permanently conserves what I value: agriculture lifestyle, livestock, wildlife and the beauty of the Livermore Valley."

“Larimer County is grateful for Mrs. Rennels’ generosity and foresight to conserve this ranch and the incredible viewshed and habitat it supports”, noted Justin Core, Senior Land Agent, Larimer County.
