Larimer County proposed amendments to special event permit requirements scheduled for hearings and public comment

Proposed amendments to the Larimer County Land Use Code requirements for special events in unincorporated Larimer County are scheduled for a hearing and public comment before the Larimer County Planning Commission, followed by a later hearing before the Board of Larimer County Commissioners.

The proposed changes to special event permit requirements, which would not take effect until January 1, 2027, include: 

  • When a special event permit is needed.
  • Types of events to be held and how standards may vary for different events.
  • Code requirements that must be met.
  • Limitations on location, hours of operation, types of events, or activities of the event.
  • Accountability by event organizers and enforcement of permit conditions.

Larimer County Community Development will be accepting feedback on the proposed updates from the community until Aug. 16, 2026.

The Larimer County Planning Commission will then hold a public hearing on the updates at 6 p.m., Sept. 16, in the First-Floor Hearing Room of the Larimer County Administrative Services Building, 200 W. Oak St., Fort Collins.

A second hearing with the Board of Larimer County Commissioners will be held at 6:30 p.m., Sept. 28, in the hearing room in the same location. The public is invited to offer comments on the updates at both hearings.
