We understand that one of the main reasons employees do not use a commuting alternative is the fear of being stranded at work. The Guaranteed Ride Home Program (GRH) helps alleviate this concern by providing a way home for those employees should they experience an illness, unexpected overtime, or other valid emergency. Employees will be reimbursed up to 2 times per year for using taxis or ridesharing services due to a qualifying event.
To qualify for a Guaranteed Ride Home, the employee must have used an alternative form of transportation to arrive at work. These include public transit, walking, biking, carpool, or vanpool.
Qualifying events include:
- Personal illness/emergency
- Unexpected illness/emergency of an immediate family member
- Carpool driver has an emergency or unexpected overtime
- Employee is required to work unscheduled overtime
Valid Destinations:
- Home
- Personal Vehicle (if parked at a Park & Ride lot or transit station)
- Medical facility
- Daycare or school
- Interim stops are acceptable, if needed to reach the final emergency destination
When requesting a Guaranteed Ride Home, the employee has the flexibility of choosing how to get to their destination. Some examples are Uber, Lyft, or ZTrip. The employee pays the cost of the ride up front. Within 30 days of the GRH, the employee should submit the GRH Reimbursement form along with receipts from the ride provider. If approved, a reimbursement will be processed via Direct Deposit within 10 business days. Larimer County will reimburse up to $2.30 per mile, unless approved by the HR Director.
