- Employees must be in paid status for at least half of their regularly scheduled work hours in a pay period.
- Newly hired Benefited Employees will begin accruing sick leave with the first full pay period of employment.
- There is no maximum accrual limit placed on sick leave balances.
- Disbursement of Accrued Sick Leave at Separation:
- Upon separation with less than five (5) years of continuous service as measured from the employee’s current service date, an employee’s accrued sick leave balance is lost.
- Upon separation with five (5) or more years of continuous service as measured from the employee’s current service date, employees receive the monetary value of a certain portion of their accrued Sick Leave as follows:
- Employees with five (5) or more years of continuous service as measured from the employee’s current service date, will have the monetary value of 35% of the number of hours remaining in their accrued sick leave balance deposited into a post-employment health reimbursement account (HRA).
- Employees with 10 or more years of continuous service will have the monetary value of 50% of the number of hours remaining in their accrued sick leave balance deposited into a post-employment health reimbursement account (HRA).
- Exception: if the monetary value of the applicable percentage of the number of hours remaining in the accrued sick leave balance is $2,500 or less, the employee will receive a cash payout.

Temporary Employees
- As of 1/1/21, temporary employees receive sick leave of 1 hour for each 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours per year (this calculates to .0334 hrs sick leave per hour worked ).
- This is not paid out at termination, but if an employee returns within 6 months, the leave hours are reinstated.
- If an employee goes from a temporary to a regular position, any accumulated temp sick hours will be moved to the employee's regular sick leave bank.
