Carter Lake and Horsetooth office closures

UPDATE: VISITOR CENTERS WILL NOW OPEN AT NOON ON THURSDAY, MARCH 14. 

Due to winter storm weather, the Larimer County Natural Resources administrative office and information center at Carter Lake and the Horsetooth Area Information Center are closed Thursday, March 14,  9 a.m.  to 4 p.m.

FORT COLLINS – Horsetooth Reservoir’s Satanka Bay parking lot, W. County Rd 48C, is closed to the public January 30 through February 16 to allow the first phase of construction for a new Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) boat inspection station.

All watercraft including their motors, trailers, compartments and any other associated equipment or containers must be inspected for exotic invasive species (Aquatic Nuisance Species or ANS) before launch or departure from Horsetooth Reservoir.

Larimer County and the municipalities of Fort Collins, Loveland, Berthoud, Estes Park, Johnstown, Timnath, and Wellington, request the community’s participation in a 2023 Open Space online survey. This survey is an update to the 2013 Our Lands, Our Future survey commissioned by the same agencies to better understand from the public how to best allocate tax dollars collected from the existing “Help Preserve Open Spaces” sales tax.

FORT COLLINS – Horsetooth Mountain Open Space’s main trailhead, 6550 W. County Rd. 38E, is closed to public access today (November 27) through December 18 to allow crews to complete parking and kiosk area improvements and install an additional vault toilet.

The improvements at the main trailhead are geared to improve flow and ease congestion for both vehicles and visitor traffic. Additionally, improvements to the kiosk area will include hardening the surface, improving drainage, and updating the informational signs and map.

Larimer County Department of Natural Resources (LCDNR) invites members of the community to share input on proposed adjustments to its enforcement regulations within LCDNR-managed properties.

Larimer County is seeking to revise eight current regulations and to add twelve new regulations in 2024. New additions include regulations associated with camping, use restriction, sanitation, destruction of public property, fishing, required safety equipment, and prohibited operation of a vessel or related activities.
