To mark Colorado Public Lands Day on May 20, Northern Colorado public land agencies encourage visitors to download and use the COTREX app prior to their outdoor adventures. This marks the first time that multiple jurisdictions, ranging from county level to federal level, have pointed to a single trails app as the verified source of information for their lands. COTREX is the official Colorado trails app, created by the state.
Larimer County Department of Natural Resources is excited to welcome back HistoriCorps, a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to engaging volunteers in rehabilitating historic structures on publicly accessible lands, to Red Mountain Open Space from September 17 through October 13.
In 2004, Larimer County Department of Natural Resources purchased Red Mountain Open Space to protect natural, visual, and cultural resources and provide public recreation access.
The Larimer County Department of Natural Resources in partnership with the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, Larimer County Office of Emergency Management, Poudre Fire Authority, and the City of Loveland encourage caution as boaters, paddlers, and anglers approach the water for recreation this spring. Colorado recorded nearly 40 fatal drownings in 2022, which was officially the deadliest year across the state’s lakes, rivers, and streams, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
Hermit Park Open Space will be closed to day-use and trailhead access Monday, May 22, through Wednesday, May 24, 2023, to allow crews to safely perform road work throughout the open space. Campers with existing reservations will be able to access the campgrounds and stay as planned.

Two planned management actions to improve operational sustainability at Horsetooth Mountain Open Space (HTMOS) are complete with installation of an automatic gate at the main HTMOS trailhead, located at 6550 W. County Rd. 38E, and digitizing the open space’s backcountry campsite reservation method.
