Out-of-Network Massage & Acupuncture Benefits Ending 6/1

Out-of-network massage and acupuncture benefits will end effective June 1, 2026. Services received through May 31, 2026 remain eligible for reimbursement.

  1. I have been waiting to submit my claims. Can I submit them now?

    Yes. Claims for out-of-network services received between 1/1/26 – 5/31/26 are still eligible. You have time to submit them, and we encourage you to start now. You may also complete the optional Logiform if you would like additional support from the Benefits Team.

  2. Can I change or drop my medical coverage due to this change?

    No. Massage and acupuncture therapy are not considered Essential Health Benefits, so this change does not qualify for a mid-year election change.

  3. I cannot find an in-network massage therapist. How can my provider join the network?

    Providers interested in joining the UHC network can learn more here: www.myoptumhealthphysicalhealth.com

  4. Are there in-network acupuncturists available locally?

    Yes, current in-network providers in the area include:

    • Kimberley A. Benjamin, CA, DC, LAC
    • Chloe A. Andrews Goldberg, CA, LAC
  5. How can I pay for massage or acupuncture services going forward?

    If you have a Letter of Medical Necessity from a licensed provider, you may use your Healthcare FSA or HSA funds for eligible expenses. Please note, however, that even if you have a letter of medical necessity, out-of-network massage and acupuncture therapy services will not be covered as of June 1st.

  6. Will these services be offered at the Wellness Clinic in the future?

    No. Based on this change, these services will no longer be offered at the Wellness Clinic.

  7. My doctor said massage therapy is medically necessary for me, how is that covered?

    Even if you have a letter of medical necessity from your doctor, out-of-network massage and acupuncture therapy services will not be covered as of June 1st. You will need to go to an in-network therapist for it to be covered.
