About Us
The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program works to protect the rights of residents of assisted living residences and nursing facilities. Anyone can contact the ombudsman with concerns.
What the Ombudsman Team Does:
- Investigates problems: They look into complaints made by residents or their families about a facility.
- Helps facility staff: They give advice to the people who run these buildings so they can take better care of the residents.
- Answers questions: They talk to families who are thinking about moving a loved one into a care facility.
- Teaches the community: They train people on rules for how facilities should be run and what rights residents have.
The program encourages people to try to fix problems directly with the building's staff first. If that doesn't work, you can also contact the state agency in charge of licensing these facilities: the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). (Note: Telling an ombudsman about a problem does not count as an official mandatory police/state report).
Choosing a long-term care community for yourself or a loved one can be overwhelming. The key is to choose a community that best meets your specific needs. The Larimer County Ombudsman Program has compiled tips and questions to assist in your decision-making process.
