Thank you for your interest in a career with the Larimer County Sheriff's Office. 

Since we hire for a number of different positions, from administrative to the Jail, sworn positions or professional, there are a number of different steps you will have to complete for our hiring process. 

The information below will give you an idea of our hiring process for each position. 

  • Individuals applying for employment with LCSO must go through a thorough pre-employment selection process.  
  • Convicted felons or individuals with illicit drug use in the past 5 years cannot be considered for employment.  
  • All applicants are required to have a high school diploma or GED. 
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age for Deputy positions.

Phase One

  • Written Exam (required for all entry-level positions)

Phase Three

Phase Four

  • Background investigation
  • Polygraph exam

Phase Five

  • Captain's Interview*
    *If eligible to move forward, you may receive a conditional offer of employment. You will then be schedule for psychological testing, medical exam, and a drug screen.
  • Individuals applying for employment with LCSO must go through a thorough pre-employment selection process. 
  • In order to be eligible for a Lateral position, Jail applicants must have a minimum of 2 years corrections/jail experience, and Patrol applicants need a minimum of 3 years Patrol experience to be eligible. 
  • Convicted felons or individuals with illicit drug use in the past 5 years cannot be considered for employment.  
  • All applicants are required to have a high school diploma or GED.  
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age for Deputy positions.

  • Individuals applying for employment with LCSO must go through a thorough pre-employment selection process.

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age for Professional Staff positions.
