Junior Trekkers is designed as a flexible, drop-in program for 6-10 year olds, though all are welcome! Stop by to learn about watersheds. Stations include:

1. Make your own watershed: create mountains, valleys, river, and lakes
2. Explore how water gets to our houses
3. Get up close and personal with what lives in our rivers

Be prepared to get messy! A parent or guardian must accompany the child for this program. Registration is required but program is free. This program will run at different locations throughout the summer.

Learn about how you can learn about what lives around us AND contribute to science using just your smartphone or camera and computer! Using iNaturalist, participants will learn key features of plants and animals to document to have the best chance of identifying their subject and contribute to the body of crowd-sourced scientific knowledge that is iNaturalist. All ages welcome!

We will start this program indoors at the Horsetooth Area Information Center before going outside to try out our new iNaturalist skills.

Becky Staab, a certified yoga instructor and Mindful Outdoor Experience Guide, will lead you on a Mindful Summer Solstice Nature Walk at Hermit Park Open Space. In honor of the Summer Solstice you will be invited to slow down, awaken your senses and relax into the beauty of nature with practices such as meditation, mindful walking, gentle stretches and forest bathing. Mindful Outdoor Experiences offer serenity, stress reduction and opportunities to deepen our relationship to the natural world.

Do you have an adventurous spirit? Do you enjoy long hikes in nature but yearn to learn more about what you see? Join Naturalist Rob Pickett for a wild wander through Larimer County Open Spaces. These 4–5-mile hikes will reveal fascinating aspects of the local flora, fauna, geology, and landscapes, making it not just a physical journey but an educational one too! Learn insights that you can carry forward into your future outdoor explorations and deepen your connection with nature while expanding your understanding of the environment around you.

Enjoy an evening with members of the Northern Colorado Astronomical Society (NCAS) for an up-close look at the night sky over the Rockies. Telescopes will be available for viewing stars, galaxies, planets and more! Bring the whole group to connect with the wonders of the night sky.

This open house-style program is located at Hermit Park Open Space. Telescopes will be set up in field adjacent to the picnic pavilion near Bobcat Campground. Program is free but a parking permit is required. Registration is encouraged.

Let's get to know a bit more about our neighbors the prairie rattlesnake. Did you know they share almost all of our foothill properties with us? We will share truths, myths, and ways to enjoy your outings more while staying safe!

Participants will meet at the pavilion and then hike the Morrison Loop Trail (.5 miles). Most of the trail is unshaded.
This hike will be easy/moderate (slow pace, trails are rocky with some elevation change). Pit toilets and potable water are available at the trailhead. Challenges: Little shade, rocky trails.
