Sales Tax Rates
Sales taxes are due one time after a new or used vehicle purchase at the time your vehicle is titled. The amount due is a percentage of the purchase price and is based on the taxing jurisdiction of the buyer and seller. Because of the different cities and taxing jurisdictions within Larimer county, the sales tax rates will vary. Use our sales tax calculator to help determine your sales tax for a new or used vehicle purchase.
A title is required to sell a vehicle in Colorado. You, as seller, and any other party listed on the title as owner, must sign on the "signature of seller" portion of the title. Some states use titles which require notarization of the seller's signature. If you are unsure about the need for notarization, please call the motor vehicle office at (970) 498-7878. The signature of the seller must match the name of the owner exactly as it is printed on the title.
Secure and verifiable identification is required on all new titles, duplicate titles, new registrations, new temporary registration permits, and new placards. The identification must be provided by the owner of record or a power of attorney presented by the agent. The agent must have secure and verifiable identification to complete the transaction.
