Federal Government Shutdown: Update to SNAP benefits

Due to the federal government shutdown, that began on October 1, 2025, the United States Department of Agriculture has informed the State of Colorado that November 2025 SNAP benefits can not be issued at this time. Please visit this page for updated information.

Public Benefits Larimer County offers food, cash, medical, or child care assistance as well as other specialized programs.
Check Your Eligibility MyFriendBen helps you find the government benefits, nonprofit programs and tax credits you’re eligible for. Quickly estimate the cash value of those programs and the time it takes to sign up, so you can make a plan before you apply.

About Human Services
The Department of Human Services assists individuals and families achieve self-sufficiency and security through public assistance programs, services or referrals to community agencies. We have locations in Fort Collins, Loveland, and Estes Park. 


We Provide:

  • Assistance in obtaining food
  • Coverage for medical costs
  • Temporary cash assistance for families
  • Protection for vulnerable adults and children
  • A process for obtaining child support
  • Care options for people with disabling conditions and limited finances
  • Referrals to community agencies that can help people in need of assistance

  • Clients can apply for benefits or check the status of their application through PEAK online. Phone hours are Monday-Friday, 8a-5p.
  • Colorado SNAP recipients can now use EBT cards online at Safeway and Albertsons. Read more about where EBT cards can be used.
  • The Double Up Food Bucks program doubles the value of federal nutrition benefits  spent at participating markets and food retail stores, helping people bring home more healthy fruits and vegetables while supporting local farmers. Learn more
